The Diary of A Traveling Gooner – Part 2 (A Disappointing Result)

In the end Arsene Wenger suggested that maybe Arsenal wanted the win so much it affected their performance. Speaking to the press after the game, he said;

It was the kind of day where maybe we were not relaxed enough, maybe we wanted it so much, that we were a bit too much in the ‘wanting zone’ and not enough in just the technical zone.

I quite agree with this and believe we were a little complacent in the final third especially in the last few minutes where playing against ten men, we should have killed off the game. I am even so more worried about the future of Andrey Arshavin who once again was called on to make an impact from the bench but yet again failed to deliver.

I arrived at the Emirates rather pumped up for the game against Wolves. Two meals at the lounge ensured that food was not a worry on my mind and I could focus solely on the football. The Emirates Stadium has some of the best sight lines in the modern game and my upper tier seat at the clock end was no exception. Seated right above the traveling fans, I was sure that we would be in for some good chanting right through the game.

I was surprised to see Wolves kick off with a back pass straight to their keeper. It soon became clear that this was their strategy for kick offs. I must say Walcott was sorely missed on the wings as he was absent due to illness. An early scare came when Djourou who was filling in at right back yet again slipped allowing Wolves to breakthrough with Read the rest of this entry

The Diary Of A Travelling Gooner – Part 1

It’s 8:25 am and I’m sitting in the British Airways Arrivals lounge at Heathrow Airport wondering how I got there. It’s been a roller coaster few days for me and for some reason I just know that today will be a great day. I arrived at Port Harcourt at about 4:30pm on Friday night to board a 6:10 flight to Abuja to spend Christmas with the rest of my family. The flight was delayed and I was only able to board at 1am the next morning. Adding that to the regular three or four-hour flight delays over the last few weeks seemed to be the tipping point for me as I vowed never to fly Aero Contractors or even Arik Air after their latest set of shenanigans.

In about three hours time, I will begin to make my way to the Emirates Stadium via Kings Cross for Arsenal’s next Premier League fixture against Wolves – a game I didn’t expect to be seeing on this trip. This game should have taken place yesterday and were it not for the tube strikes planned for yesterday, I fully expected to watch the game at Yemi’s viewing centre in the Estate where I live in. As soon as I received notification of the postponement of the game, I headed straight to the online box office to buy a ticket for the game as they had gone on general sale. I was immediately met with a warning of a long wait time as the box office was busy. It was December 22 and red member tickets for the game against Manchester United had just been made available so the rush Read the rest of this entry

Match Preview: Arsenal v Wolves

Written by @VersatileDavid

Compliments of the season to every Arsenal fan reading this. It was good seeing the Arsenal players sending their wishes across to us on the club’s site.

Round-up

HENRY’S RETURN

Some days ago, the Gaffer mentioned the possibility of signing Club Legend ‘Thierry Henry’ on a short-term deal. Henry trained with ‘us’ during the close season. It is very obvious to everyone that we have relied heavily on RVP all along, with Chamakh and Gervinho leaving for the African Cup of Nations and Park seeming unready for the rigors of the EPL. Benayoun, Rosicky and Arshavin’s entrance into our last game against Aston Villa changed the game in our favor.  Arsene must have watched Henry closely in the training decision he’s had with us to reach a conclusion. There is an urgent need for striking depth on the bench, someone who can come in and get the job done immediately. Let’s just hope Wenger makes the best decision.

INJURY UPDATES/FULL BACKS

Kierran Gibbs would remain absent for at least an additional month. It was good to see Bacary Sagna running again; he should be back in the team by the end of January. Johan Djourou has a ‘little chance’ to return against our next opponents (Wolves). While we have coped well in the Read the rest of this entry
