Match Preview: Arsenal v Wolves

Compliments of the season to every Arsenal fan reading this. It was good seeing the Arsenal players sending their wishes across to us on the club’s site.

Round-up

HENRY’S RETURN

Some days ago, the Gaffer mentioned the possibility of signing Club Legend ‘Thierry Henry’ on a short-term deal. Henry trained with ‘us’ during the close season. It is very obvious to everyone that we have relied heavily on RVP all along, with Chamakh and Gervinho leaving for the African Cup of Nations and Park seeming unready for the rigors of the EPL. Benayoun, Rosicky and Arshavin’s entrance into our last game against Aston Villa changed the game in our favor.  Arsene must have watched Henry closely in the training decision he’s had with us to reach a conclusion. There is an urgent need for striking depth on the bench, someone who can come in and get the job done immediately. Let’s just hope Wenger makes the best decision.

INJURY UPDATES/FULL BACKS

Kierran Gibbs would remain absent for at least an additional month. It was good to see Bacary Sagna running again; he should be back in the team by the end of January. Johan Djourou has a ‘little chance’ to return against our next opponents (Wolves). While we have coped well in the absence of our full-backs, a loan signing in this department is a welcome idea, at least to prevent Uncle Squillaci from coming close to the first team.

RVP AND SHEARER’S RECORD

Club captain and talisman Robin Van Persie is two goals shy of Alan Shearer’s record, why it would be a good thing to see him break that record, having him fit for the second half of the season is much more important, Again Arsene should do the needed, if the medics say he is in the ‘red’, there is no need risking him. The task ahead of us in the coming months is much more important than any personal record. Like I said earlier, Arsene needs to be swift in bring a ‘ready’ striking option. I believe Wenger is in a dilemma over Robin’s situation. Who would lead the attack in his absence?

WOLVES

Apart from Manchester united’s win, other results of the EPL games played today are in our favour. WBA made ManCity drop two points, Liverpool and Chelsea were also held to draws. 3 points tomorrow would see us replacing Chelsea in the 4th spot. Tottenham Spurs would also be playing tomorrow; hopefully they’ll drop points as well. For the Wolverhampton game, Alex Song would be back to boss the midfield. Also, I think it would be nice to see someone else replace Aaron Ramsey in the starting line-up to make him realize he needs to work harder. I believe in this Arsenal squad and I expect an emphatic win tomorrow.

PROBABLE LINE UP

SZCZESNY

COQUELIN-KOSCIELNY-MERTESACKER-VERMAELEN

An Arsenal win tomorrow will take us to fourth position, an Arsenal win with a 6-goal difference will take us to third position (temporarily). Up The Arsenal!
