Arsenal vs. Dortmund: Match Report

Written by @DaygeeDr

Feels good to be writing an Arsenal match report, not a journalist, just a Doctor that bleeds Arsenal,  so you would pardon my flaws I also must say, it’s my first time doing this. Before the match begun, I made my team selection with Djourou coming to RB and because I felt the  Vermaelen-Koscielny combination at CB was better suited to counter the trickery and pace of the dortmund trio- Goetze, Kagawa and Lewandowski.

Didn’t get ma wish though and Arsene opted for our big German and the Verminator as the CB pairing, with Koscielny at RB. The starting eleven on the night was: Szczesny, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen Santos, Arteta, Song, Walcott, Ramsey, Van Persie, Gervinho: With Fabianski, Djourou, Diaby, Frimpong, Benayoun, Arshavin, Chamakh on the bench.

The game started well, and Dortmund came with a simple plan, but effective: Press them further up the pitch and get close to their wide men (Gervinho and Walcott) as soon as they get the ball. This might not be the perfect time for the gunners but it is certainly not the worst of times.  Arsene Wenger has been able to steer the ship of the club through the most turbulent period of his golden 15 year reign. Arsenal has been able to put together a string of impressive performances that includes 5 premiership victories on the bounce especially the scintillating 5-3 victory over Chelsea at the Bridge and UEFA Champions League victory over Marseille at Stade Velodrome.

Arsenal’s recent resurgence has been down mainly to the impeccable form of the premiership’s hottest striker in the person of Robin Van Persie and the synergy that exists between Walcott, Gervinho and the Dutch master. Both wingers have contributed in no small measure to the 13 premiership goals that have been recorded by RVP so far this season.

Having dispatched Norwich city at Carrow road over the weekend, the attention of Wenger and his wards have turned towards the visit of German champions Borrusia Dortmund in the champions league.  The gunners have one foot in the knock out stage of champion’s league but their bubble could still be burst. Arsenal missed the opportunity to seal a berth in the round of 16 when they Read the rest of this entry
