Some Thoughts on Arsenal versus Man Utd.

Written by @JCphoenixx

I 8 2 be writing this post right now. It has nothing to do with the fact that I 8 2 much food this evening, but a lot to do with the fact that I 8 2 be so jittery and apprehensive before a game.

I love The Arsenal. I really do. I’ve supported this club all my life, I live, breathe, eat and Worship the Arsenal but the beating our arses got in August from these bloody Rear Devils left me so sore and moody, I snapped at everyone for the next week.

Everyone would agree that we’ve come some way since then though. We’ve gone and brought in new faces: Gervinho, Arteta, Santos, Yossi, Big Friendly Giant, (Henry?)  and these guys have added a lot to our squad. Gervinho might be the most exciting, but Arteta’s importance to our team grows more obvious with every game he misses through his injury. This leads me to the cruncher: Only BFG and Yossi are available. Gervas off to the African Nations Cup, Santos is injured, so is Arteta, even the resurrected Thierry Henry is a doubt, Jenkinson, who made his debut for us in the corresponding fixture is also unavailable.

There’s a lot to be pessimistic about, Ramsey has been labeled “misfiring, Careless with passes, folding under pressure, Scolesesque in a tackle” but in my opinion, he needs to be cut some slack. With Gervinho out, Arteta burnt, none of our normal overlapping fullbacks around, he’s had fewer targets in front of him, only RvP, Arshavin and Theo (who has had to drop back more often than he would like to, and thus has become even less of an attacking threat than he would’ve been with Sagna). Arshavin has also had to drop back in recent games to help Miquel, whose effort no one can doubt, but whose ability is still short of Top class. Also noteworthy is the fact that he’s playing out of his normal centre-back position.  Our line-up in August was Szczesny-Koscielny-Djourou-Jenkinson-Traore-Rosicky-Theo-Ramsey-Rvp-Arshavin.

Our lineup is likely to resemble this, with Djourou slotting into right back, and Miquel replacing Traore. BFG and Koscielny (who has really impressed me, the most underrated defender ever. lol) will be in the center. No word yet on Vermaelen’s fitness for the match.

One major difference to our team compared to august is Alex Song. In my opinion he’s been our most consistent performer this season. RvP has scored the goals and grabbed the headlines, but Alex has been silently solid in almost every game he’s played, even when we’ve been generally dismal, he’s usually my standout performer.

So there it is, here’s hoping we have a good game, Arsene came out to say we “aren’t out for revenge”, RvP says “We ARE”…. Whose report do you believe?

  1. A certain Yoruba proverb goes “If you haven’t collected a sword, you shouldn’t yet ask who killed your father”..errrmmm…we aint got no swords for this game…let’s not try to avenge 8-2. X_X

    • Debo, commot here with your negative spirit! lol. What have we if we don’t have hope? This is a must-win (in my books) and despite everything pointing to the contrary, I believe we can get a result tomorrow.

      • Yeah yeah…I know this Arsenal side likes to surprise us. Hope they surprise me today by winning….Vermalaen is playing…let’s see

  2. First things first…..great work with the site Hexy baba…u too much.

@JCPhoenixxx….this is a very good article and it was epitomized by the intersting point you made on Ramsey.

The Welshman has very big boots to fill in the form of the departed Cesc and he has done the best he possibly can.

Yes, he gets carried away at times and tends to be too skillful for everyone’s likening but like you said, he hasn’t gotten much targets to feed in attack.

Arshavin and Walcott track back a lot to support the clubs makeshift full backs and it hasn’t been easy for everyone connected with Arsenal.

I hope we win today. It’s been a while since I wrote in this amazing site.

    Sayonara.

    • Thanks enigma, your face (and hand on this site) scarce small.
I agree with you on Ramsey, I’ve been a tad critical of him of recent but putting all things into perspective (like JCPhoenixx highlighted), he’s actually doing a lot for this team, given his experience, or lack of, and the fact that he came back recently from a year long injury. His dip in form also coincides with the loss of his national coach? No? One of his admirable qualities is that he gives it all till the final whistle. Dude is a workhorse. He just needs to fine-tune his touches, stop giving the ball away too cheaply, and ease on the flicks and tricks…and we’ve have a decent MF in our MF.
      Cheers

      • Ramsey and Song deserve more praise than they get. Song especially…In last month’s FourFourTwo…. Their list of Top 100 footbllers in the World didn’t have Alex Song. Imagine that??!!!

  3. Don’t forget Ramsey is just 21, he almost never goes invisible in a game, he’s either good, or shite, but he’s visible. Where do you think is the best position for Benton though? Cos personally I fail to see a unique thing he brings to the squad except for experience

    • Benayoun? As per position, He’s Rosicky-sque I think, Across the midfield…or behind the striker…As per wwhat he brings to the team, He is a “squad player” .. We need squad players…Wenger just needs to utilize his squad players better…
