Arsenal to tour Naija

I’ve been meaning to write my first post here for a while but a lack of topic and excellent writers covering the post and pre match analysis meant I had to bid my time, well until today that is.

Following the celebrations of the 125th anniversary, I got perhaps the bestest news from Arsenal. Just in case you haven’t heard, the club is considering coming to this shores on a tour next summer. Yeap, you saw right. Opportunity to watch our heroes in flesh.

Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott, Heed, Song, Arteta, Chesney could all be live in Nigeria next July. Let’s just hope they would still be here and the Euros wouldn’t prevent them from coming.

Although the plan is still in the initial phase, it is rumoured that it would be a two country, three game tour. The countries being South Africa and our Naija. Representatives of the club were reported to have been in the country earlier today.

The representative of the company organising the proposed tour (Dajan Sports – same company that brought United and Portsmouth), Mr David Omigie said: “Arsenal will tour Nigeria ahead of the 2012/2013 season and will play against some selected Nigerian clubs. During the visit, we will hold talks with top officials of the Nigerian Football Federation to ensure that Nigeria benefits from the visit of the Gunners.”

I hope when the club comes, Lagos would be chosen as the venue. I know Abuja would be number one choice but the passionate and committed fans are larger in Lagos. Wouldn’t like to see an empty stadium like when United came. But wherever it is, let’s show everyone that gooners own Naija. God willing, I would be there even if it is in Boko haram headquarters.

To shamelessly advertise myself, you can see more of my posts on Arsenal Effect and also follow me on twitter @ArsenalEffect.

Till next time, ódabò.
